In case you hadn't noticed by my sig, I am excited for Tangled. I admit that at first I was very cautious, especially since the movie had been in development for so long I didn't expect it to be THAT good. But after reading glowing early reviews applauding it's heartwarming story that screams Disney consider me stoked.
This may be the hype speaking, but with every new trailer and information released I believe this might be the best of the CG films.
Anyone else just as excited? edited by pap64 on 10/17/2010

Yeah, if you get to see it early, please let us know what you thought of it and if it does live up to what the early reviews said.

Man, they have been releasing a lot of clips! I am afraid of posting them since they might count as spoilers. BUT, the perfume ad with Flynn is HILARIOUS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JQ_bxt9trg
Disneyland Paris also did a wonderful Tangled event where Flynn and Rapunzel sang "I see the light", complete with flying paper lanterns!

Just finished watching Tangled, it was amazing!!!!!!! There was only one thing that I felt could have been better, I will discuss that after people have seen the movie. But it is a must see.

I've said a lot about Tangled (especially if you were around last WEDnesday Show), but I never posted about it here. As you guys know, I love the movie. The more I kept thinking about it, the more I really loved the movie. There were some things that at first bothered me about it, like how it didn't focus enough on the supporting characters and they were underused. But after watching the movie a second time with my nephew, I realized that this works greatly to the film's advantage. One problem I had with Princess and the Frog was that the characters were great, it had too many of them, and so much time was spent on them rather than the main characters, Tiana and Naveen. The story that gets developed the most is Ray and Evangeline's. Facilier creates a bigger impact than Tiana and Naveen, and most of the "it" scenes didn't reach the excitement the creators hoped they would.
Tangled, on the other hand, focuses on Gothel, Flynn and Rapunzel. The supporting characters are there to support THEM. There are no additional plots to deal with, and thus the story and characters are far more captivating. But the one thing that puts the movie above Princess and the Frog is the "it" scene of the movie: the lanterns sing. It is a beautiful scene that represents the emotional height of Flynn and Rapunzel, and it is simply magical.
Gothel as a villain was highly effective. In comparison to Facilier she isn't a showman like villain, but the emotional abuse and manipulation put her above many other villains. A close comparison would be Judge Frollo from Hunchback from Notre Dame, but that would be comparing apples to oranges. She is so, so good that you nearly believe she cares for Rapunzel, whereas Frollo never cared for Quasi.
The one thing that people bash the movie for is the music. I admit at first I didn't like it that much. But as I kept listening to it I grew to love it. Yeah, the lyrics are not as poetic as Howard Ashman's compositions, but they work for the movie. I liked the opening song. It is very pop-song ish but it works well for the character of Rapunzel. "I see the light" is easily my favorite song in the movie, with "I've got a dream" being a second favorite.
I LOVE Rapunzel. To me she is a mix of Snow White's innocence, Ariel's spunk, and Belle's tenacity. She is a very believable character. She wants to go visit the world but understands that nothing is as easy as they seem. She may have lived a life of captivity but isn't completely naive and is resourceful. She is adorable, especially when she sneaks out of the tower for the first time. Flynn is a great character, too. I thought he would be very obnoxious, but there is a weaker side to him that makes him more approachable than Naveen (though he is a fun character either way).
Finally, I think the animation may be some of the best Disney has produced, even above those of Princess and the Frog and Pixar films. The characters are just so expressive you can freeze frame the movie and any expression they make is amazing. There is life to these characters, and you can tell that a master animator was at the helm of this movie.
Overall, Tangled is a fantastic movie, the best Disney has produced in a while. I really hope this is the beginning of something great.

You know, it is almost eerie that Pap posted above yesterday. I read it just now (after seeing Tangled for the 2nd time today) and he wrote almost verbatim what I was going to say!
So i will not bore you by repeating Pap's words...just know that I love this movie and if you've not seen it - what are you waiting for?
**BY THE WAY** I took Robbie with me! We had a tour of the theatre before it opened so he could see the "big room with all the seats" and realize how dark it gets. He said he could handle it - so we got our popcorn and settled in for the hour-and-a-half movie. HE LOVED IT! His eyes got so wide at the very beginning - when they show the Castle and Tink's pixie Dust Fly-by! But he was quiet as a mouse throughth the whole movie and sat still - we had a TALK about how to act during the film. I am so proud of him and I am glad that TANGLED was his first movie in a real theatre!!
Much love to all!
Stacia
