Like you guys know, this year I am planning on breaking my curse and TRY to go to Disney World (emphasis on TRY). If I were to visit the park for the first time, which place would be the best to visit first and why? I always saw myself visiting Fantasyland first since that's where most of the Disney themed attractions lie.

When I went for the first time in 2003, I made sure I did the Magic Kingdom first, I sat on a bench on main street and just took it all in.

First of all, Pap...I want to be there when you arrive! I LOVE to see WDW through the eyes of someone who is on their first visit!
My oppinion is to go to MK first...be prepared to be amazed....I know you've seen it on TV - but there is NOTHING like making that turn on Main Street USA and seeing the Castle for the first time. Walk slowly toward it - and go where your heart leads you! From the Castle - you can move easily to TOmorrowland, Fantasyland, Adventureland or Liberty Square...Frontierland and Mickey's Toontown fair are through other "lands" to get to.
Once you decide on which "land" to go to first...again - just take it in for a moment and let the sights, sounds, smells and your heart lead you to the first attraction...you can not go wrong...you will be at the most magical place on Earth! Ride rides, eat a Dole Whip, see shows, eat a Mickey Krispy Treat (with Chocolate dipped Ears) and shop until you drop! The next day - get up and do it all again!

First you should come to Washington and get me and then we can go together! I have only been to WDW 2 times (3rd in 39 days!). I could learn with you!

Best Idea for a WDW Newbie is to get over to MK and walk SLOWLY... make sure you take in every step, looking at the ground, buildings, people, everything. Then explore each shop, room, etc. as you work your way towards Cinderella Castle, make your way around the whole park before getting on the rides, then try the most popular first, followed by the least popular, and then the ones that have hardly any traffic at all. If you get there for a character breakfast at Crystal Palace, make sure that you schedule it after the opening ceremony. You don't want to miss that. There are so many things to do that you literally can miss some stuff. I had my first horse drawn ride in a long time in 2009. It never occurred to me how fun it could be. I truly had forgotten how fun it was as well. I have been going to WDW since 1973. edited by Big-Bad-Wolf on 4/2/2011
