Yeah. This film doesn't interest me at all. I tink I fit in the younger kid category. Too scary looking!

I am sure I will rent it when it comes out on redbox just to see it once. But it really didn't look very good.

When Robbie saw the pre-view (when we went to see Rango) - he asked me if the Mommy was kid-napped...he had this scared look on his face and I had to explain that (once again) it's just a movie and not real - that Mommies do not get kidnapped and taken to Mars. Now, I know that I will have to continue to tell him that things on TV and in movies aren't real, but when it's a cartoon AND from Disney, it almost seems blasphemous...

We will NOT be renting this or watching it when it makes it to HBO/Showtime! Big Bad Wolf was right for the younger ones - it is too scary!

(How strange is it that Mommy being kidnapped is terrifying, but all the villians are not? Maybe Robbie is just brilliant and realizes @ 4yrs old that the villians/witches/hags/Kelvin aren't real - i mean, OF COURSE he's brilliant! He's MY KID!) <grin>

Usually, I am pretty cool with Zemeckis's motion capture movies, and I loved "A Christmas Carol", but this movie rubs me the wrong way. The design of the characters is too...disgusting! I mean, the humans look creepy and the aliens are ugly! I mean, when I hear "Mars Needs Mom" I imagine cutesy aliens along with appropriately designed characters!

BUMP!
I saw the movie today, and I liked it! It was much better than expected. I still stand behind the fact that the design is ugly, but the story had a lot of great emotional points. I was even touched by some of its scenes, especially since I am a mama's boy and my mother pretty much raised me growing up. I think that had it been a traditionally animated in CG film (like a Pixar movie) or a live-action movie it would have done better. The aliens are too freaky and the humans are kind of scary, even when they do manage to pull off a convincing performance during the emotional scenes.

I just love how pro-family it is. The aliens believe in complete order and discipline, forgetting that it also takes love to raise a great child. In an era where many are opting out of parenthood it felt nice to see a film celebrate parenthood from both the point of view of the child and the parent.
